Months of training, discipline, dieting, posing practice, and sacrifice came together on stage at the 6th Mr. Kathmandu, where Ultimate Lifting Club athletes Aseem Singh Thapa and Kunal Basnet represented ULC in the Men's Physique category.

For the ULC family, it turned into a day to remember.

Aseem Singh Thapa stepped onto the stage in the Men's Physique Above 170 cm category and walked away as the champion, finishing first among 15 competitors.

Kunal Basnet, competing for the very first time, placed an impressive 5th among 16 athletes in the Men's Physique 170 cm category.

Two athletes. Four months of preparation. One championship and a top-five finish.

But there was another moment that made Aseem's victory particularly special.

From One ULC Champion to Another

Last year, James Magar, an athlete from Ultimate Lifting Club, stood on the same stage and was crowned the winner.

This year, he returned in a different role.

James was there as part of the team managing and guiding Aseem and Kunal throughout their competition preparation. When Aseem was announced as the winner, it was James who had the privilege of crowning his fellow ULC athlete.

For everyone at ULC, it was a special moment.

A champion from the club passing the crown to another champion from the same family.

It also reflected something we value deeply at ULC. Bodybuilding might look like an individual sport when an athlete walks onto the stage alone, but nobody reaches that stage alone.

Four Months of Work Behind One Night

What the audience sees on competition day is the finished product.

What they do not always see are the months behind it.

Both Aseem and Kunal went through approximately four months of dedicated competition preparation leading into Mr. Kathmandu.

Training had to become more precise. Nutrition had to be followed consistently. Conditioning, recovery, posing, presentation, and the countless small details that separate competitors on stage all became part of everyday life.

Throughout the preparation, the athletes were managed and supported by James Magar, ULC athlete and previous Mr. Kathmandu winner, and Aashrya Sigdel, ULC athlete and coach.

The goal was not simply to get the athletes lean enough to compete. It was to bring the best possible version of each athlete to the stage.

And on competition day, that work showed.

Aseem Singh Thapa Dominates the Lineup

Aseem entered the Above 170 cm Men's Physique category, facing a lineup of 15 competitors.

From the moment he stepped on stage, he looked ready.

Months of preparation had produced the conditioning, shape, presentation, and confidence needed for the occasion. Against a competitive field, Aseem stood out and dominated the lineup, ultimately being declared the winner of his category.

For Aseem, it was the reward for four months of focused preparation.

For the ULC team, it was another reminder of what can happen when an athlete's commitment is matched with the right coaching, environment, and support system.

And seeing James crown Aseem made the victory even more meaningful.

Last year's ULC champion had now helped prepare the next one.

An Impressive Debut for Kunal Basnet

While Aseem celebrated a championship, another ULC athlete was experiencing competition day for the first time.

The 6th Mr. Kathmandu was Kunal Basnet's first-ever bodybuilding competition.

First competitions are difficult to predict. Training in the gym is one thing. Walking onto a bodybuilding stage under bright lights, standing beside experienced competitors, hitting poses on command, and presenting yourself confidently in front of judges and an audience is something completely different.

Kunal handled that pressure remarkably well.

Competing in the 170 cm Men's Physique category, he finished 5th out of 16 competitors.

More importantly, he looked comfortable on stage.

He brought confidence, charisma, and presence to his first competition, qualities that can take athletes several competitions to develop.

A top-five finish in a 16-man lineup is already an excellent beginning. Doing it in your first competition makes the result even more encouraging.

There is plenty more to come from Kunal.

More Than the Results

Of course, we are proud of the placings.

A first-place trophy and a top-five finish are achievements worth celebrating.

But competitions are also about everything that happens before the athletes walk onto the stage.

Four months of preparation requires consistency when motivation is high and, more importantly, when it is not. It means showing up for training, sticking to the plan, managing fatigue, practicing posing, making adjustments, and trusting the process.

It also takes a team.

James Magar and Aashrya Sigdel worked closely with both athletes throughout their preparation, bringing their own experience as ULC athletes, competitors, and coaches into the process.

That athlete-to-athlete relationship is an important part of the culture we are building at Ultimate Lifting Club.

People train together, compete together, learn from one another, and then pass that experience on to the next athlete preparing to step on stage.

This time, we saw that cycle come full circle.

Next Stop: Mr. Asia

The celebrations at ULC will not last too long because another major competition is already on the horizon.

And this time, the stage is international.

James Magar will represent Nepal and Ultimate Lifting Club at Mr. Asia in Thailand, taking place from September 22 to September 28.

After helping guide Aseem and Kunal through their Mr. Kathmandu preparation, James now turns his attention back to his own competition prep.

He will travel not only as a ULC athlete, but as a representative of Nepal on the Asian stage.

From winning Mr. Kathmandu, to helping crown and prepare another ULC champion, to representing the country internationally, it is another exciting chapter in James's journey.

For everyone at Ultimate Lifting Club, there is a lot to be proud of right now.

Congratulations to Aseem Singh Thapa on becoming the Men's Physique Above 170 cm champion, and to Kunal Basnet on an outstanding top-five finish in his competition debut.

Congratulations as well to James Magar, Aashrya Sigdel, and everyone who played a role behind the scenes during these four months of preparation.

One competition is over.

The next stage is waiting.

Thailand, we are coming.
